Reiki
I have been privileged to experience many different therapeutic modalities from Counselling to Acupuncture, Massage, Meditation, Breathwork and Reiki. As well as training to be a Psychotherapist, I have also qualified as a Reiki Practitioner, perhaps because these were the two modalities that I have found to be the most beneficial for myself as a client.

Reiki helps restore balance and promote a sense of calm and ease. It can assist with stress, anxiety, grief, and both emotional and physical pain. Being non-invasive and completely safe, Reiki energy intelligently flows to where it is most needed, addressing any level of discomfort or imbalance you may be experiencing.

For those who have not come across it before, Reiki is the Japanese word for universal energy. This energy is known in many cultures around the world, in India they call it Prana, in China its known as Chi. Reiki is not affiliated with any religion, it is a powerful and yet gentle tool for self healing.

Reiki practitioners channel energy through their hands, in 2017 I received my attunement and training where I learned various ways of working with this energy. It's important to acknowledge that I am not a ‘healer’, either as a therapist or as a reiki practitioner. The therapy client and the reiki recipient heal themselves; I facilitate this process.
Reiki and Counselling
In recent years the Eastern technique of mindfulness has been a trend in the world of mental health. It’s become common place for therapists to adopt creative methods, use guided visualisations and other grounding techniques to facilitate the therapeutic process. This helps integrate the work, reduce overwhelm and provide deeper insight for clients.

Reiki is another modality that allows individuals to get in touch with their authentic self so that they are able to find their own way forward. It does this by allowing us to reach a peaceful state where we reflect on our thoughts, feelings and emotions.

When offering Reiki, my background as a psychotherapist allows me to hold space for whatever shows up for the you without directing your individual process. The therapeutic relationship is central to my work, whether you come to Rose and Sage for Counselling or Reiki, your wellbeing is at the heart of what I offer.
Working Ethically
All of my work is fully insured, and I am deeply committed to ethical practice.

We all learn to some degree to hide those aspects of self that we fear won't be received well by others. A significant part of my work involves creating a space where clients feel courageous enough to be their authentic selves. To maintain integrity and honor the therapeutic relationship, I also strive to be authentic and transparent about what I offer and why, so you can make an informed choice.

If you wish to experience both reiki and counselling, I maintain a boundary of at least two weeks between ending one and starting the other. This period provides containment, honors the work we do together, and allows time for processing and integration. For this reason, I do not offer therapy and reiki simultaneously.
FAQs
What Does It Feel Like?

Your Reiki experience will be unique to you. You might see lights, feel tingling, experience temperature shifts, or have emotional reactions like tears or laughter. Some people feel relief from pain, gain insights, or experience compassion and understanding, while others simply feel deeply relaxed. It’s also possible to feel nothing at all, which doesn’t mean the treatment isn’t working.

What Happens in a Session?

During your first visit, I will ask about your general health, medical history, and reasons for seeking Reiki, and we’ll discuss your treatment plan. You don’t need to undress; I will place my hands on or a few inches above your body, focusing on areas that need attention.

Aftercare

You might feel thirsty after a session, so drinking plenty of water is recommended. It's best to avoid strong caffeine-based drinks and alcohol. You may also feel deeply relaxed, so resting at home or in a peaceful natural setting can help you fully benefit from the treatment.

How Many Sessions Do I Need?

There are no guarantees with Reiki, but for best results, it's generally advised to have three sessions one week apart if you’re new to Reiki or it’s been a while since your last session. This approach allows for a smooth integrative transition. There is no obligation; this recommendation is based on your budget and schedule.

Remote Reiki session - any distance

Remote Reiki offers an effective treatment that you can experience without leaving your home. Clients often tell me they 'sense' when I've connected with them and can feel the Reiki energy flowing. Many prefer a phone or zoom call after their session, finding that sharing their experience helps them process it more fully. However, some people prefer to simply relax into the peaceful state that Reiki induces, without any need for conversation.
